Areas of Study
Raúl Fauré is an active orchestral and chamber musician and teacher in Pittsburgh.
Fauré is currently a member of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and is a substitute for the Ohio Valley Symphony and Erie Philharmonic. As a soloist, he has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of the Alleghenies and Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, where he was principal viola for eight years. He is also a founding member of Pittsburgh’s Fauré String Trio.
A native of Chile, he began studying viola with Enrique López at the Catholic University of Chile and was a member of the university resident string quartet, performing throughout Chile. He was also a founding member of the Sur String Quartet in Santiago and a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile for five years before moving to the United States.
Fauré maintains a busy teaching schedule and is on the faculty of Duquesne University’s City Music Center.
Fauré holds a master’s degree from Duquesne University, where he studied with Randolph Kelly, principal viola of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the graduate string quartet. He also received a Performance Residency Program certificate from Carnegie Mellon University.
