Areas of Study
Ryan Frost is an accomplished percussionist in all genres and has a particular interest in world music. That interest led Frost to spend the summer of 2010 studying West African drumming and dance at four cultural centers in Ghana.
As a performer, Frost has collaborated with the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, and the Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra.
Frost has experience teaching percussion, pedagogy, music appreciation, and a variety of world music ensembles as a faculty member at the University of Northern Iowa and Middle Tennessee State University.
Frost is pursuing doctorate in percussion performance at West Virginia University, where he was a teaching assistant in the percussion studios and the WVU World Music Performance Center. He holds a master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, both in percussion performance. Frost’s teachers have included George Willis, Michael Vercelli, Lalo Davila, Jim White, David Pruett, Randy Hogancamp, and Jeffrey Smith.
