Areas of Study

Yahya Laayouni is an adjunct professor in the Department of Modern Languages at W&J. He teaches both French and Arabic. He received his BA in English Literature and an MA in Gender Studies from Mohammed Ibn Abdellah University in Fez, Morocco. He also holds a foreign language teaching certificate from Fez, Morocco. He is currently finishing his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh. His dissertation concentrates on Beur cinema as an emerging genre and on the construction of subjectivity in Beur films. His field of research includes, but is not limited to, questions of visual alterity, narrative identity and transnational cinema. He is also interested in francophone and Arab-Islamic literature and culture, post-colonialism and Orientalism.
