Michael Pettersen is a professor of physics. His specialty is low temperature physics. Currently, Dr. Pettersen is studying solid surfaces and how their properties depend on temperature, particularly near transitions where the surface becomes wet or rough. Understanding the properties of surfaces is important to many industrial products and processes, ranging from computer chip manufacturing to detergent chemistry and oil extraction. He also has some projects in musical acoustics under development.
