Areas of Study
Professor Katherine Ternes is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages. She teaches elementary, intermediate, and advanced Spanish, in addition to literature surveys and culture courses. She also participates in the Freshmen Year Seminar program. She led two abroad Intersessions to Guanajuato, Mexico, and will be taking a group to Granada, Nicaragua for a cultural immersion / service-learning experience January 2012. Her areas of interest include: Modern Latin American Literature and Culture, Latin American Revolutions, Hispanic Women Writers and Artists, Foreign Language Pedagogy, and International Service-Learning. Her primary research concerns avant-garde artistic production in Mexico following the Revolution; she is working on a book project based on her Ph.D. dissertation entitled The Confluence of Literary and Visual Culture: The Mexican Avant-Garde Movements, 1920-1940.
