Public Relations

Public Relations is an emphasis offered by the Department of Communication Arts. The program provides skills for graduate study or participation in the enterprise defined by the Public Relations Society of America as “a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.”

Coursework includes training in the creation and assessment of oral, written, and visual messages, as well as exposure to theoretical knowledge of rhetorical principles foundational to building individual, organizational, and public relationships. Courses include, but are not limited to, public speaking; community radio, and radio drama and documentary via the college radio station, WNJR; and a senior project. An internship is also recommended.

A communication arts major with an emphasis in public relations requires 10 courses total. Additional course information is available in the W&J College Catalog.
