The Office of Residence Life gives students the option to rent bed lofts and MicroFridges prior to arriving on campusand throughout the academic year. Bed lofts are a convenient way to maximize the space of residence hall rooms. MicroFridges are an environmentally and infrastructurally friendly alternative to traditional microwaves and combine the convenience of a mini-fridge, freezer, and microwave in one unit. Bed lofts and MicroFridges may be used in all campus housing areas. *Only Bica Ross Hall, New Residence Hall, Whitworth House, and Chestnut Street houses allow regular microwaves in student rooms (limited to one unit per suite/apartment).
The Office of Residence Life is currently accepting reservations for bed loft and MicroFridges. To reserve either or both items please submit a Bedloft/MicroFridge Request. This rental program will be the only option students have to loft their beds and or have microwaves in their rooms (except noted above). Quantities are limited.

Can I loft my bed? Yes. You can rent a bed loft for the year. Renting a bed loft is an easy, affordable way to create additional living space in your room. Students may preorder a loft by completing the Bed Loft and MicroFridge Order Request. Lofts may also be rented on move-in day but quantities during move-in may be limited.
Are refrigerators allowed in rooms? Yes. Refrigerators, no larger than 3 cubic feet are permitted in all residence hall rooms. Washington & Jefferson College rents MicroFridges to students. MicroFridges have 2.9 cubic feet of total storage capacity, including a freezer and a 600 watt microwave. Students may preorder their MicroFridge. MicroFridges may also be rented on move-in day but quantities will be limited.
Can I return my Bed Loft and/or MicroFridge? Yes. Bed lofts and MicroFridges are returnable throughout the academic year. In order to receive a refund, requests must be made prior to October 11th. Any requests made after that date will be approved but will not be eligible to receive a refund. Bed lofts will need to be dismantled prior to pick-up. Before a MicroFridge can be returned it must be cleaned and defrosted. MicroFridges returned without first being cleaned and defrosted will result in a $50 cleaning fee. There is a $50.00 non-refundable Early Return & Restocking Fee for all MicroFridges and a $25.00 Early Return & Restocking Fee for bed lofts.
What do I do with my Bed Loft and MicroFridge at the end of the year? Students are responsible to ensure that bed lofts are dismantled and MicroFridges are cleaned and defrosted prior to move-out. If MicroFridges are not cleaned properly, students will be charged a $50 cleaning fee.
