Frequently Asked Questions

When will I receive my room assignment? First year students will receive their room assignment during Launch or mail during the summer. If you have not received an assignment by early August please contact our office at reslife@washjeff.edu. Upperclass students can log onto WebAdvisor to review their housing information after Housing Selection. Transfer students will receive information about their housing assignment at their "Nuts & Bolts" meeting with the Office of Student Transitions.

What is furnished in my room? Each residence hall room is equipped with a twin bed, dresser, closet or wardrobe, desk, and desk chair for each resident. Each room has ethernet connections for internet access and a cable box. Wireless network access is also available campus-wide.

What should I bring to campus? What should I leave at home? Please review our list of items that students should consider bringing to campus and avoiding.

Are air conditioners allowed on campus? Only College approved and installed air conditioners are allowed on campus. Air conditioning is available in Bica-Ross, New Residence Hall, Wade House, Whitworth House, and all Chestnut Street (Greek) houses. Many rooms in Presidentss Row also have air conditioning but not all. You may contact the Office of Residence Life for more information.

Can I bring a pet to campus? Students are permitted to have non-carnivourous fish in all residence halls. Consult the Student Handbook for more information and limitations. Students residing in Pet House are permitted to have pets. Download and review the W&J Pet House Manual and Pet Registration Form for more information.

Can I bring/build a loft in my room? No. The only lofts allowed on campus are those rented through the College's bed loft program. Please contact the Office of Residence Life or click here for more information.

Who is responsible for cleaning my room? Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms/suites. College staff will clean the common restrooms in Alexander Hall, Beau Hall, Chestnut Street Houses, Marshall Hall, Mellon Hall, Presidents Row, Wade House and Upperclass Hall.

Can I bring my car to campus? All students are welcome to bring vehicles when they come to W&J. Student are required to apply for a free parking permit from the Protection Services Office.

Where will I be able to do my laundry? Laundry is free to all students and facilities are available in multiple locations including the ground floor of Beau Hall, (for residents living in Alex, Beau, Marshall, Mellon and Upperclass Halls), New Res Hall, Bica Ross Hall, President's Row, Chestnut Street houses, Wade House, and Whitworth House.

What is a Resident Assistant? A Resident Assistant (RA) is an upperclass student who has been selected to facilitate vibrant learning communities within the residence halls. RA's are trained to promote positive communities, assist in the event of a roommate or suitemate conflict, and answer questions/concerns from residents and refer them to College resources.
