Housing Selection Process

After groups have applied for Housing Selection, individual Points are assigned based on each student's class standing (Freshmen, etc.) which is determined by his/her completed academic credits. This may include transfer credits, AP credits, etc. Information used to determine class standing is retrieved from information on file with the College Registrar and is effective through the end of the most recent completed term. It is each student's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of his or her academic record before registering for selection.

Points
  • 4 Points - Rising Senior, 64 or more completed credits
  • 3 Points - Rising Junior, 32 - 63 completed credits
  • 2 Points - Rising Sophomore, 0 - 31 completed credits

Group Points are the sum of the four group members. A group of four rising seniors, for example, will have a Group Score of 16 points. A group composed of two rising juniors and two rising sophomores will have a Group Score of 10 points.

Selection order is determined by a random selection number assigned to all groups within a given point structure. For example, student groups having 16 points will select their housing assignments first and will do so according to their random selection number. Student groups having 15 points will choose after all groups having 16 points have chosen and so on and so forth.

Step 1

Taylor, Jennifer, Gwen, and Michelle decide to form a housing group. They talk about their living habits and agree on standards for noise, cleanliness, and guests. (Remember, good friends don't always make good roommates!) Once they decide to live together they first have to make sure that they pay their returning student deposit to the Business Office. Next, they select a Group Leader. This person's name is listed first on all registration and selection materials and all communication from the Office of Residence Life will be channeled through the Group Leader. The Group Leader then goes to the Residence Life website and fills out the Online Group Registration Form.

Step 2

The group is assigned points based on their rank.

  • Taylor (rising senior) - 4 points
  • Jennifer (rising senior) - 4 points
  • Gwen (rising junior) - 3 points
  • Michelle (rising sophomore) - 2 points

Group Total - 13 points

Selection order is determined by a random Selection Number assigned to groups within a given point structure. Within each point structure groups will choose in the order of the Selection Number assigned to them. Taylor, Jennifer, Gwen, and Michelle will select their housing assignment next year after all groups having 16 points, 15 points, and 14 points and will do so according to the lottery number that is assigned their group leader.

Step 3

Jennifer cannot attend the Housing Selection date. She must then fill out a Housing Proxy Form and give it to one of her group members. Without the Proxy Form, the group must wait until the end of the Housing Selection Process to choose housing.

*We suggest that you give Proxy Forms to your Group Leader. That way, you know who has it and who is responsible to bring it on Housing Selection night.*

Step 4

The group arrives to the Rossin Ballroom at their assigned Housing Selection date and time. The Group Leader checks in with a Residence Life staff member to notify them that the group has arrived. The staff member gives the Group Leader detailed instructions on how the Selection process will happen that night. The Group Leader makes sure that she has Jennifer's Proxy Form so they can select housing.
