Student Staff Selection
The Office of Residence Life is looking for motivated student leaders interested in becoming a member of our dynamic team. Student staff play an important role in our residential communities. They will serve as a resource and reference point to their fellow students, support a safe, fun, and diverse community, and uphold community standards. Among the most important functions of our staff is the building of community in the residence halls. You will do so through the development and promotion of campus programming and athletic events and by creating meaningful relationships with your student-residents with the goal of fostering a community that is educationally purposeful, open, just, disciplined, caring, and celebrative (Boyer, 1990).
Minimum Qualifications of Staff
Must possess and maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Must be a full time student for both the Fall and Spring semesters. For those studying abroad, applications will be considered, depending on applicant pool.
Must be in and remain in good disciplinary standing prior to and during the term of employment
Must be capable of being a positive representative of the Office of Residence Life, Student Life, and Washington & Jefferson College
Several optional staff recruitment events will be held in the coming weeks inviting prospective candidates to gain a deeper understanding of positions in our office and to get to know current staff. Opportunities for prospective candidates to shadow current staff members wil also be offered. Though optional, these events are strongly encouraged of all prospective candidates. You can sign up for these opportunities at an upcoming Staff Selection Information Session or by contacting the Office of Residence Life.

Educate yourself on the position as much as possible. Read through the application, website and attend a recruitment event and information session. For more information contact the Office of Residence Life at 724-229-5120 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Secure a W&J faculty or staff member who will complete a reference form for your application. Print the “Faculty/Staff Reference Form” and give it to your reference – ask him/her to submit the form to Residence Life by Monday, February 17th.
Ask your current RA to complete a reference form for your application. Print the “Current RA Reference Form” and give it to your RA – ask him/her to submit the form to Residence Life by Monday, February 17th. (If you do not have a current RA because you are commuting or living in your Fraternity or Sorority house, you may ask your chapter’s president or a former RA to complete the form. If you do not have a former RA available to complete the form, please contact email@example.com.)
Complete and submit the “RA Application Form” to the Office of Residence Life in the Rossin Campus Center by Monday, February 17th by 5:00p.m.
Along with your application, you must submit a resume and cover letter. If you are need of assistance, please contact and schedule an appointment with the Office of Career Services.
Prospective candidates are required to attend one of two Group Interviews. Group Interview will be on Saturday, February 22nd. There will be a morning session (10:00a.m.-1:00p.m.) and afternnon session (3:00p.m.-6:00p.m.) Applicants will select which session that they can attend through the online application.
All prospective candidates will be notified of their status following the Group Interview Process. Candidates selected for individual interviews will be contacted to schedule an interview with a member of our Professional Staff.
Applicants participating in individual interviews will receive final notification of their status by Friday, March 7th.
