Resident Assistant Selection 2013-2014
The Office of Residence Life is looking for motivated student leaders interested in becoming a Resident Assistant (RA). RAs play an important role in our residential communities. If selected as an RA, you will serve as a resource and reference point to your fellow students, support a safe, fun, and diverse community, and uphold community standards. Among the most important functions of the RA is building a community in the residence halls. You will do so through the development and promotion of campus programming and athletic events and by creating meaningful relationships with your student-residents.

Resident Assistant Minimum Qualifications

Must possess and maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Must be a full time student for both the Fall and Spring semesters. For those studying abroad, applications will be considered, depending on applicant pool.

Must remain in good disciplinary standing during the term of employment

Must be capable of being a positive representative of the Office of Residence Life, Student Life, and Washington & Jefferson College

This year we will offer opportunities for student’s to shadow current RA’s. Though optional, this is strongly encouraged of all prospective candidates. You can sign up for this opportunity at an RA Information Session or by contacting the Office of Residence Life. Several optional RA recruitment events will also be held in the coming weeks inviting prospective candidates to get to know current staff and seek answers to questions about their experiences.
Application Process

Educate yourself on the position as much as possible. Read through the position description and responsibilities, and attend a recruitment event or information session. For more information contact the Office of Residence Life at 724-229-5120 or reslife@washjeff.edu.

Secure a W&J faculty or staff member who will complete a reference form for your application. Print the “Faculty/Staff Reference Form” and give it to your reference – ask him/her to submit the form to Residence Life by Friday, February 15th.

Ask your current RA to complete a reference form for your application. Print the “Current RA Reference Form” and give it to your RA – ask him/her to submit the form to Residence Life by Friday, February 15th. (If you do not have a current RA because you are commuting or living in your Fraternity or Sorority house, you may ask your chapter’s president or a former RA to complete the form. If you do not have a former RA available to complete the form, please contact Rich Doria.)

Complete and submit the “RA Application Form” to the Office of Residence Life in the Rossin Campus Center by Friday, February 15th at 5:00pm.

As you are filling out your application, there is a section that will include the dates for the group interview. There will be two dates for the group interview. All applicants are encouraged to attend group interview on Sunday, February 24th. However, if you have prior commitments, then those applicants may attend group interview on Tuesday, February 19th.

Following the group interview process, potential candidates will be extended an offer to participated during the individual interviews.

Applicants will receive final notification of their application status by Monday, March 4th, 2013.
