Sam '81 and Melinda '81 Riccitelli

Sam Riccitelli '81 shares Melinda Elish Riccitelli '81 and his love story:

Despite being the same class year, Melinda and I did not officially meet until March of our senior year. We were at a party at my fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega.

While this was our first formal meeting, I first spied Melinda walking in front of Old Main on an early-spring morning our sophomore year. She wouldn’t even give me a second look!

Shortly after our first meeting, I asked Melinda on a movie date. Thankfully, she agreed and we’ve been together ever since.

Our final semester at W&J, we took a biometrics class together taught by Professor Hart. At first, Melinda struggled with the class, and I helped her get through it.

Eventually, Melinda went on to receive an A in the course and I received a B. This is still a point of contention more than 30 years later!

When we were married, some of my Alpha Tau Omega brothers served in the wedding, including the best man.

We have been married more than 30 years and have three children: Nathan James Riccitelli, Ph.D. (27), Sarah Chelsea Riccitelli (24), and Quinn Simone Riccitelli (18). We were blessed with a grandson, Luciano James Riccitelli, in June 2013.

I am the Chief Executive Officer of a molecular diagnostic company, and Melinda teaches biology at a local San Diego college. We have lived all over the United States but have spent most our lives in California.

We currently reside in San Diego, Calif., a place we love and call home. We love to travel and spend time with our family and friends in the sunshine of San Diego.
