Scholarship Weekend FAQ

When is the Washington Fellows Scholarship Weekend?
Scholarship Weekend is April 4-5, 2014.

How can I get to campus if I am flying into the Pittsburgh International Airport or arriving at the Amtrak train station?
Please notify the Office of Admission at least one week prior to the event, and we will have someone pick you up and bring you to campus.

When is Registration?
For Friday arrivals, Registration runs from 4:00–5:30 p.m. in the Admission House.  For Saturday arrivals, Registration runs from 8:00–9:15 a.m. in the Ski Lodge.  During Registration, you will receive a packet of information, including a final agenda, listing of campus activities, and campus map.

Do I have to arrive on Friday?
We prefer that you arrive on Friday.  If you are unable, arriving on Saturday is fine.

Where will I spend the night on Friday and with whom?
Our Student Supervisors will pair you with a student host.  You will meet your host during Registration and will stay in his/her room.  Meals will be provided.  Parents who wish to spend the night can make arrangements with a local hotel. Visit for a listing of local accommodations.

What should I bring?
Remember to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and appropriate toiletries.  You should also bring clothing appropriate to wear to the Scholar’s Dinner on Friday evening. Business casual is suggested.

Will there be things to do on Friday night?
Yes!  See the activity listing in your registration packet for full details.  Parents are invited to an evening reception with members of the campus community.

Where do I view content descriptions for the various seminar experiences?
Seminar descriptions will be available for view on the main Washington Fellows Scholarship Weekend page toward the end of December, and additional seminars will be added throughout the month of January

Where do I sign up for my preferred seminar experience?
You will receive an email around the middle of January (at the earliest), with a link to sign up for your preferred seminar experience. Once you decide which seminar you would like to attend (along with backup choices), please fill out that form and we will take care of the rest. We will do our best to accommodate your request, however, seats are limited for each experience so sign up early to guarantee attendance in your top choice. Please note that the seminar experience you choose will also be the one your parents attend if they are coming to the event on Saturday morning.

Do I have to do any preparation for the seminar experience?
You may be asked by the faculty member conducting your seminar to do some outside reading before coming to the event. All reading materials will be available on the Washington Fellows Scholarship Weekend Website for your review. Readings will be listed by seminar topic, and you will receive a confirmation email one week before the event letting you know which seminar you have been assigned.

Will I be able to tour the campus?
Tours will be offered on Friday and Saturday.  Also feel free to ask your host to take you around campus.

What if I have additional questions?
Please contact Lisa Chappel, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Enrollment, or Michael Ashbaugh, Assistant Director of Admission, at 724-503-1001 x. 3393 or by emailing or
