2013 W&J Men's Tennis Preview
WASHINGTON, Pa. — The 2013 men’s tennis season will be the second for Head Coach Chris Faulk at Washington & Jefferson College.
Faulk, a two-time Presidents’ Athletic Conference champion (one singles, one doubles) during his four-year tennis career at W&J, looks to help the team continue its rise in the league standings after last spring’s three victories.
Four players return to the squad with collegiate experience, led by junior Christopher Fadil (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge). Fadil posted a team-high four victories as the Presidents No. 4 singles player along with a quartet of doubles triumphs.
A pair of Fadil’s doubles victories came alongside sophomore Renato Popovic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks). Popovic also earned a pair of singles wins during his rookie campaign.
Sophomore Shihao Liang (Henan Province, China) claimed four No. 2 singles victories last spring and was named PAC Player of the Week after a helping W&J to a season-opening victory at Pitt-Greensburg. Liang was the first President to earn the honor since Faulk in 2010.
The duo of Liang and sophomore Samuel Miller (Cheswick, Pa./Shady Side Academy) won three No. 1 doubles matches. Miller also earned a trio of singles victories in the No. 1 flight for the Presidents.
W&J opens the 2013 season at Pitt-Greensburg on Feb. 22 beginning at 5:00 pm.
