Washington & Jefferson College

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents’ Athletic Conference released its Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2011 semester on Wednesday and Washington & Jefferson College had 29 student-athletes garner recognition.   

Athletes from all seven NCAA fall sports sponsored at W&J were honored.  The PAC Honor Roll features student-athletes who earned a grade point average of at least 3.60 on a 4.00 scale during the fall semester.  A total of 375 student-athletes from all 10 PAC institutions were selected, led Waynesburg which had 62. 

Leading the way for Washington & Jefferson were seniors Brett Axner (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls), Frank Gigler (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) and junior Brittany Mosi (South Park, Pa./South Park), all of whom were selected for the third time.

Axner was a four-year member of the football team.  He is a 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team member and a Dean’s List student who owns a 3.92 GPA as a business administration major.  He appeared in all 10 games as a tight end in 2011, reeling in 10 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.

Gigler, a three-year letter winner as a defensive end on the football team, was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honoree.  The elementary education major finished second on the team with four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, while maintaining a 3.72 GPA. Gigler started 31 games during his career, producing exactly 100 stops and 15.5 sacks.

Mosi has accumulated a 3.91 GPA as a history major at W&J.  She has earned five letters as a member of the cross country and track & field teams. 

The football squad led W&J athletics with 11 members of the squad earning a spot on the academic honor roll.  The men’s cross country team had five honorees and the volleyball team garnered four, while women’s soccer (3), men’s soccer (2), women’s cross country (2) and women’s tennis (2) were also represented.
