Balanced Effort Gives W&J Victory Over Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals for the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team during a 4-2 Empire 8 victory over Ithaca in New York on Saturday afternoon.
W&J (5-4, 2-2 Empire 8) won its third-straight road match, while Ithaca (5-5, 2-2 Empire 8) fell at home for just the second time this fall.
Junior Tori Patrick (State College, Pa./State College) quickly got the Presidents on the board when she scored off a penalty corner just 1:24 into the game.
Senior Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) added her third goal of the season midway through the first half to make the score 2-0. Sophomore Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) assisted on both first-half goals.
The Presidents recorded another quick tally to begin the second half as senior Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) found the back of the net just over two minutes into the half.
After Ithaca cut the lead to 3-1, Beaudoin upped the lead back to three with her fifth goal. Beaudoin now has a pair of four-point games this year.
Both teams recorded seven shots on goal, while the Bombers held a 15-10 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) stopped five shots in net to earn her third victory. Goalkeeper Kelly Singleton blocked three shots for Ithaca.
The Presidents return home to Cameron Stadium on Tuesday for a non-conference match with Frostburg State beginning at 5:00 pm.
