Barcia Nets A Pair To Lead W&J To Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Freshman Samantha Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team to a 3-0 non-conference victory at Wittenberg on Tuesday evening.

Barcia picked up her own rebound in front of the net and beat Wittenberg goalie Jessica Jensen for her first goal with under three minutes to go in the first half.  Midway through the second stanza, Barcia dribbled in front of the net and once again slid the ball past Jensen to make the score 2-0.

Sophomore Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) added an insurance tally to provide the final margin.  Beaudoin is tied for the team lead with four goals this fall.

Barcia paced the Presidents (3-2) with seven shots on goal, while senior Arielle King (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added six.  Overall, W&J outshot the Tigers 15-1.  Wittenberg's record fell to 1-5 overall.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Brozena (Telford, Pa./Souderton) earned her second victory in goal.  Jensen stopped 12 shots in the loss.

W&J returns to Cameron Stadium on Saturday for an Empire 8 match with St. John Fisher at 12:00 pm.
