Barno, Marabella Earn All-Region First Team Honors
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College juniors Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) were named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Field Hockey North Atlantic Region First Team on Wednesday.
Barno (above) led the Empire 8 Conference in scoring with 13 goals and nine assists for 35 points (1.84 points per game), while earning All-Empire 8 First Team honors. Barno ranks fifth all-time at W&J with 58 career points. She has played in 52 games during her first three seasons and is fourth in school history with 16 assists and seventh with 21 goals.
Marabella (left) was named to the first team all-region squad for the second consecutive year. She led the team with 15 goals and added two assists for 32 points. Marabella surpassed Beth Kelley to become W&J’s all-time scoring leader with 101 total points (46G, 9A). She is also the college’s leader with 46 career goals, which is tied for 18th among active Division III players, and was named to the Empire 8 Conference First Team for the second-straight year.
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport.
The Presidents reached the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in school history this season after winning their first Empire 8 Conference Championship and finished with a 15-5 overall record.
