Beaudoin's Tallies Lead Presidents Past Eagles
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Junior Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) scored both goals eight minutes apart in the second half to help Washington & Jefferson field hockey end a two-match losing streak following a 2-1 victory at Juniata Tuesday afternoon.
The Presidents (9-5) defeated the Eagles (7-8) for just the second time in 13 all-time meetings. Juniata leads the Landmark Conference standings at 3-0 so far this fall.
The first half finished scoreless, but Juniata had nearly every scoring chance with a 5-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners.
The Eagles finally broke through 12 minutes after the start of the second half when Mikaela Stone scored from seven yards out.
Beaudoin tied the game with just over 15 minutes remaining after re-directing junior midfielder Gina Taglieri's (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) smash inside the circle.
The same combination was responsible for the second goal on a penalty corner with 7:53 remaining as Taglieri slipped a pass to Beaudoin for the eventual game winner.
Juniata limited the Presidents to only four shots, while attempting 13; however, sophomore goalie Kyra Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) produced nine saves to earn the win. Juniata also led in overall penalty corners by a 16-5 margin.
Beaudoin now has a team-high eight goals, while Taglieri is tied for the team lead with four assists.
W&J returns to Empire 8 Conference play Saturday versus Ithaca (Noon).
