Bellhy Brothers Highlight W&J’s 70-65 Victory Over Geneva

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior guard Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and sophomore forward Nate Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) combined for 38 points and 20 rebounds during a 70-65 victory over Geneva Wednesday night at the Henry Memorial Center.

Zach Bellhy finished with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Nate Bellhy contributed 17 points and nine boards.  W&J limited the Golden Tornadoes to 33 percent shooting (25-of-75).

The Golden Tornadoes (1-15, 1-7 PAC) started strong and held a 15-7 advantage after five minutes; however, the Presidents (7-10, 5-3 PAC) used a 15-2 run midway through the half to grab the lead.  Six different Presidents scored during the spurt and Zach Bellhy’s basket at the 1:37 mark put W&J ahead 32-28 at the break.

Geneva tied the game (39-39) on a Zac Rorick three-pointer six minutes into the second half, but W&J held off the challenge and vaulted the lead back to eight (58-50) on a Zach Bellhy triple with 5:50 remaining.  Geneva could only dwindle the lead down to four points the rest of the way.

W&J shot 41 percent (24-of-58) and received a lift off the bench from sophomore forward Mitch Locher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth).  He scored a career-high 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.

Matt Lorello, the PAC’s leading scorer, had 19 points to pace Geneva.  Jordan Harbison added 16 points and five rebounds for the Golden Tornadoes, who held a slim 46-45 edge on the glass.

W&J starts the second half of PAC play on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
