Bellhy Earns Two Player Of The Week Awards

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College junior guard Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.  In addition, the ECAC selected Bellhy on Tuesday as the Division III South Player of the Week.

Bellhy drained an 18-foot jumper as time expired to lift the Presidents (3-4, 1-1 PAC) over NCAA Division II provisional member Notre Dame College on Tuesday.  The game winner added the final two of a career-high 26 points poured in by Bellhy.  He shot 9-of-17 from the field and added three rebounds and two steals, leading W&J to its first ever win against the Falcons.

Bellhy took just three days to set another career high as he put forth a 27-point effort in a 76-66 loss at Thiel on Saturday.  He played all 40 minutes and also contributed three rebounds and two assists.

Bellhy is the second-leading scorer in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference at 20.0 points per game.  He leads the team in free throw shooting (.825) and is averaging 3.2 rebounds per game.  During his career, Bellhy has averaged 10.9 points and 2.3 rebounds.  In 57 career games, Bellhy has 621 points, 121 rebounds and 35 steals.  He is a career 36 percent shooter (60-167) from three-point range.

W&J visits Thomas More on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.  The game, as well as the women’s contest with the Saints at 5:30 pm, will be streamed online via the PAC Sports Network (www.pacstream.net).
