Bethany Defeats W&J 79-60 In PAC Men’s Basketball
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Bethany College turned 21 Washington & Jefferson College turnovers into 30 points and the Bison cruised past the Presidents 79-60 in PAC men’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Henry Memorial Center.
The Bison (12-1, 4-0 PAC) never trailed after scoring the first eight points of the game. Bethany led 26-20 with 7:46 left in the first half and then ended on a 19-6 spurt to push its lead to 19 points (45-26) at halftime. Nick Wilcox had 12 points and six rebounds to lead BC in the opening stanza.
Bethany’s lead never dipped below double digits in the second half. A basket by senior guard Uchenna Okocha (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/University School) brought the Presidents to within 49-37 with 15:54 left, but the Bison scored nine of the next 11 points, including five points from Reece Mabery, to stretch the lead back to 19.
Wilcox posted 18 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Bison, who shot 41 percent (25-of-61). James Barton also scored 18, while Mabery contributed 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals. Leslie Addy rounded out four BC players in double figures with 11.
Bethany held a 39-31 rebounding advantage and hit 8-of-26 three-point shots.
Freshman guard Andy Carter (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led the Presidents with 16 points. Sophomore point guard Brett Rubin-Goldstein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was the only other President in double figures with 14 (6-of-6 free throws).
The Presidents, who shot 38 percent (19-of-50), return to action on Saturday at Saint Vincent (6:00 pm).
