Bethany Halts W&J’s Winning Streak In West Virginia
BETHANY,W. Va. – Bethany shot 59 percent (39-66) from the field and Leslie Addy scored 33 points during a 109-72 Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory over Washington & Jefferson College at Hummel Field House on Saturday.
W&J fell to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play, while Bethany (12-4, 6-1) won its 15th-straight home game dating back to last season.
W&J led by nine points during the early minutes after five-straight points from sophomore forward Nate Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry); however, BC clawed back into the contest, eventually knotting the score at 24.
Senior forward Ben Cecchini’s (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) layup gave W&J a 33-29 lead, but a 23-2 Bethany run over the final 6:33 pushed the Bison in front 52-35 after 20 minutes. Leslie Addy collected 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead BC, while senior guard Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) paced the Presidents with 15 points.
Addy continued his hot shooting during the second half, adding 15 points, and the Presidents were unable to cut the Bethany lead under 20 points.
Addy drained 7-of-9 three-point tries, while pulling down 10 rebounds for the Bison, who held a 36-25 edge on the glass. James Barton tallied 20 points and Nick Wilcox added 15.
Nate Bellhy paced the Presidents’ offense with 23 points (8-15 FG), while Zach Bellhy totaled 22 points and a team-best six boards. W&J shot 40 percent (20-50) from the field, but was hurt by 18 turnovers.
The Presidents look to bounce back against Geneva at the Henry Memorial Center on Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
