Big Second Half Helps Capital Top W&J

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital scored three times in the final 45 minutes and defeated the Washington & Jefferson men’s soccer team on Saturday, 3-1.The game went into halftime scoreless, despite the Presidents’ (2-5) 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.  For the game, W&J outshot the Crusaders 7-3.

Nick Elhy got Capital (4-3) on the board in the 56th minute on a shot from the right side of the box that beat senior goalkeeper Pete Tomlinson (Seymour, Conn./Seymour). The Crusaders picked up two quick goals from Dan McCarthy to build a three-goal lead late in the second half.

Freshman Jerry Grimes (Tampa, Fla./H.B Plant) tallied the first goal of his career in the 87th minute.  He found the ball in front of the net and beat goalkeeper Dylan Beck to cut the Capital lead to two.

W&J remains on the road when it faces Franciscan on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
