Bishwaty Earns All-PAC Honorable Mention
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Freshman outside hitter Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) earned All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference volleyball honorable-mention laurels on Tuesday.
Bishwaty is the second W&J freshman to gain all-conference recognition during the last two seasons for the Presidents. Sophomore Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) was also an honorable-mention pick last year. Prior to 2011, W&J had not had a freshman earn a postseason honor since Becky Fletcher in 2002. Bishwaty was one of three first-year players honored by the PAC this fall.
Bishwaty led the team and finished ninth in the league with 37 service aces and was second with 193 kills, while appearing in all 26 of the Presidents’ matches. Defensively, she added 212 digs and 31 blocks.
Conference champion Thomas More swept the league’s individual awards. Tori Verville was named Player of the Year and Jessica Knaley gained Freshman of the Year honors. Saints’ Head Coach John Spinney earned the PAC Coach of the Year award.
W&J finished its season with a 10-16 (4-14 PAC) record under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Brooke Turner.
