Conference Leader Thomas More Blanks Presidents 2-0
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer team lost a 2-0 match Wednesday afternoon on the road against Presidents’ Athletic Conference leader and 20th-ranked Thomas More.
The Saints (12-1-2, 6-0 PAC) dominated the match as they registered 20 shots in all, 11 coming in the first half. Thomas More opened the scoring in the 21st minute when conference goal leader Oliver Huber connected on her 17th goal of the fall. The Saints took the 1-0 lead into halftime after not allowing the Presidents (8-7, 3-3 PAC) to record a shot.
W&J’s defense continued to hold TMC to just the one-goal advantage until the 79th minute when Courtney Clark provided her team with an insurance marker.
The Presidents managed two shots in the game, both of which came during the second half. Senior Holly Shipley (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) picked up a shot and classmate Dani Span (Baden, Pa./Quigley Catholic) registered W&J’s only shot on goal.
Morgan Kinyon (Stockton, Calif./Oakdale) got the start in goal for the Presidents and played the entire first half, making five saves. Mattie Follen (Moon, Pa./Moon) took over in the second half and also collected five stops.
Washington & Jefferson will conclude its 2013 home schedule this Saturday (Oct.26) when it plays host to PAC foe Waynesburg at 3:30 pm.
