Conn. College Tops W&J Water Polo in Maryland
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Connecticut College jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead and hung on to defeat Washington & Jefferson College 10-9 Saturday in the second day of the CWPA North/South Men’s Water Polo Tournament at the United States Naval Academy.
Sam Mitchell and Jonathon Stark both scored two goals for the Camels, who were opening their season. W&J’s record dropped to 2-3.
The Presidents were led by senior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and freshman Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny), who both recorded hat tricks.
Junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) added a pair of goals, while classmate Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) notched one. Junior Alex Shuey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) also dished out two assists.
In the cage, sophomore Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) played the entire match and stopped eight shots.
W&J continues play in Maryland this afternoon at 3:00 pm against Division I George Washington.
