Dave Trushel Adds ECAC Weekly Pitching Honor
WASHINGTON, Pa. – A day after being selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Washington & Jefferson College senior right-hander Dave Trushel (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was selected as the ECAC Division III South Pitcher of the Week.
Trushel pitched the 19th-ranked Presidents (24-5, 15-2 PAC) to a pair of league wins last week. He allowed one earned run on five hits in seven innings during a 3-2 win over Thiel on Wednesday before firing a two-hit, nine-inning shutout versus second-place Westminster on Sunday (1-0 W&J victory).
His victory against Westminster upped his season record to 8-1 and placed him in a tie for the school’s single-season complete game record after tossing his seventh of the spring. Trushel, who owns a 1.86 earned-run average, ranks seventh in NCAA Division III in victories and ninth in complete games. He is also 22nd nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (1.0) and 32nd in hits surrendered per game (6.29).
Trushel (24-10 career record, 3.75 ERA) has vaulted up the list in numerous career school records this spring and now ranks second all-time at W&J in career innings (244 2/3) and victories (24) and third in strikeouts (148), appearances (49) and complete games (10). Opponents are hitting just .242 against Trushel during his four years with the Presidents (1,060 career batters faced).
