Defensive Pair Earn ECAC Football South Region All-Star Honors

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior linebacker Neil Sorice (Youngstown, Ohio/Canfield) and junior defensive back Nathan Melhorn (Salineville, Ohio/Southern Local) were both named to the ECAC Division III South Region All-Star Second Team recently.

Sorice is a three-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference performer after earning first-team accolades in 2011.  He led the conference with four forced fumbles and finished second with 95 tackles.  His tackle total was the most by a President defender since Craig Sedunov made 110 stops in 2008.

Sorice topped W&J with 14.5 tackles for loss, the third-best mark in the conference, and added one interception and a blocked extra-point.  Sorice completed his career with 227 tackles, seven sacks and six forced fumbles in 42 games.

Melhorn was also a First Team All-PAC performer this season.  He was the Presidents’ second-leading tackler with 68 stops.  Melhorn tied for first in the league with two fumble recoveries and added a pair of forced fumbles.  Melhorn was the leader of the W&J secondary that allowed 6.6 yards per reception and just over 200 yards per game through the air.  A two-time letter winner,  he has racked up 108 tackles and one interception during 21 career games.

W&J finished the season 6-4 overall and 5-3 in PAC play, marking the 28th-consecutive winning season for the team, the third-longest active streak in Division III.
