Denison Remains Undefeated With 19-4 Win Over Presidents
GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Denison ended the first half with 11 unanswered goals and cruised past Washington & Jefferson 19-4 in women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon. The Big Red remained undefeated at 9-0, while the Presidents (2-9) lost for the eighth consecutive time.
Denison scored the first three goals of the match in less than two minutes, but senior attacker Megan Kelly (South Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) took a pass from senior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and beat DU goalie Grace Bodenmann for W&J's first goal just 40 seconds later.
The Big Red dominated from that point; however, with the next 13 goals, including four by Carol Allen. Denison outshot W&J 21-3 in the first half and 35-13 for the game. Denison also held a 15-8 advantage on draw controls. Allen finished with five goals and two assists for the Big Red, who had eight different goal scorers.
Kelly scored twice for the Presidents, while senior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Pauls School) added one goal and one assist. Freshman attacker Ashley Bulger (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) also scored for the Presidents, a goal that was set up by classmate Diana Harvey (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington). Senior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) finished with 11 saves.
Washington & Jefferson plays its next game at home on Wednesday versus Allegheny (7:00 pm).
