Dickinson Edges W&J In Carlisle, 2-1
CARLISLE, Pa. -- After playing to a scoreless tie for 63 minutes, Dickinson and Washington & Jefferson exploded for three goals in a nine-minute span, two of which were scored by the Red Devils for a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Presidents on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils (2-0) outshot W&J (0-2) by a 14-8 margin, including a 9-3 edge during the first half. W&J sophomore goalie Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) made three of his five saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
Dickinson broke through on Jamie Martin's goal at the 63:38 mark. Washington & Jefferson answered just over seven minutes later on the first collegiate goal by freshman midfielder Adam Suter (Butler, Pa./Butler).
However, Nate Latshaw netted the eventual game winner 94 seconds after Suter's tally and the Red Devil defense limited the Presidents to one shot the rest of the way. Cody Hickok stopped three shots to earn the win in goal for Dickinson.
W&J hopes to get into the win column for the first time in 2012 on Saturday when traveling to La Roche (3:00 pm).
