Early Goals Push Hartwick Past W&J
ONEONTA, N.Y.—Hartwick jumped out to an early three-goal lead and never looked back as it defeated the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team 5-2 in Oneonta, New York, on Saturday afternoon.
Katie Lonsky, Kelsey Kimble and Meghan Sweeney all scored in the first 17:06 of the first half to provide the Hawks (3-2, 1-0 E8) with a 3-0 lead.
Senior Arielle King’s (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) team-high fourth goal of the season got W&J on the board, cutting the Hartwick lead to two with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.
The score remained the same until midway through the second half when Sweeney added her second goal of the game. Sweeney would tally one more for the hat trick.
Senior Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) recorded the Presidents’ second goal off a feed from junior Tori Patrick (State College, Pa./State College).
Freshman goalkeeper Kira Bunker made one save during the final 52 minutes of the game for W&J, while Megan Campbell stopped four shots for the Hawks.
W&J looks to end its two-game skid on Tuesday when it faces Wittenberg in Ohio (5:00 pm).
