Eddie Nogay Earns A Pair Of Baseball Awards
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Sophomore right-hander Eddie Nogay (Weirton, W. Va./Madonna) earned the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Award and a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after a turning in a pair of solid performances on the mound last week.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performance at each of thirteen positions around all of NCAA Division III from the previous week.
Nogay tossed a one-hit shutout against Geneva, leading the Presidents (13-2, 4-1) to a 1-0 victory on Tuesday. The shutout was the first of his career. A fifth-inning single was the only blemish on the day for Nogay, who struck out four and did not issue a walk.
He received a no-decision in W&J’s 3-2 victory over Saint Vincent on Sunday. Nogay threw 6.2 innings and struck out five, while allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on seven hits. The earned run was the first Nogay had allowed in his last 23.1 innings.
Nogay owns a 2-0 record, along with one save in five appearances this spring. He ranks second in the PAC with a 1.26 ERA and has struck out 17 batters in 28.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .190 off of him, the fourth-lowest mark in the conference.
In 18 career appearances (nine starts), Nogay has a 5-0 record in 70 innings. He has struck out 36 batters and has produced a 2.19 ERA.
W&J hosts Geneva at Ross Memorial Park on Wednesday at 4:30 pm. The Presidents will be looking for a season sweep of the Golden Tornadoes after taking both games of a doubleheader last week.
