Evan Lestini Captures Rossin Memorial Championship At Southpointe
CANONSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Evan Lestini (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) recorded back-to-back rounds of 74 to claim medalist honors Monday at the 2013 Peter C. Rossin Memorial hosted by Washington & Jefferson College at Southpointe Golf Club, home of the Web.com Tour’s Mylan Classic.
Ohio Wesleyan University fought back from a three-stroke deficit to W&J after Sunday’s opening 18 holes to win the team championship with a score of 613 (304-309).
The Presidents were second with 615 strokes (301-314), while Saint Vincent (622—322-301), Point Park (640—326-314) and California’s (Pa.) Club Team (647—325-322) rounded out the top five teams.
Thomas More (651), North Carolina Wesleyan (652), W&J “B” (659), Point Park “B” (664) and Columbus State Comm. College (696) finished in the bottom half of the standings.
Lestini edged Saint Vincent’s Derek Lingafelt and OWU’s Kaneat Nimcharoenwan by one shot to win the individual title in the field of 49 golfers. The trio represented three of the nine players who posted two consecutive rounds in the 70’s.
W&J freshman Hunter Bagiatis (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) was one of the other nine to shoot sub-80 rounds both days, placing fourth at 153 (76-77). Senior Colin Izzo (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) tied for 16th place in his final home collegiate tournament after carding 159 strokes (77-82).
The Presidents’ “B” team was led by junior Matt Wiescsyzk (Clarion, Pa./Clarion-Limestone), who earned for 20th place (161—76-85). Overall, W&J had 10 players in the field and six finished among the top 25.
The tournament concluded W&J’s fall schedule. The Presidents will next be in action in late March (29-30) at the McDaniel Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club.
