Five W&J Track & Field Athletes Qualify For ECAC Indoor Championships

WASHINGTON, Pa.  --  Five track & field athletes from Washington & Jefferson College have qualified to compete in the ECAC Division III Indoor Championships on March 3-4.  The event will be held at the New York Armory in New York City.

Freshman Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) will run in the 3,000 and 5,000-meter events.  She posted a top time of 10:39.96 in the 3,000 meter event at the Mount Union Jim Wuske Inviitational and ran the 5,000 meters in 18:39.89 at the Capital University Rick Meindl Meet this winter.

Sophomore Cheyenne Mangold (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) has qualified in the 400 and 500-meter events.  Mangold’s top time in the 400 meters this winter came on Saturday at the Anderson (Ind.) Fred Wilt Memorial (59.63).  Joining Mangold in the 500 will be classmate Meghan Poinsett (Salem, N.J./Salem).  Poinsett ran a 1:21.69 at Capital on Feb. 18.

On the men’s side, senior Taylor Hockman (Wellsburg, W. Va./Hedgesville) and Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) will both compete in the triple jump.  Hockman jumped 44’ 7”, while French posted a jump of 44’ 3 1/2” at Capital.  Hockman could also compete in the long jump.  He currently ranks 16th nationally and would need to move to 13th to earn a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships.
