Four Presidents Score In 4-2 Victory In Maryland

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior forward Arielle King (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) broke a 2-2 tie four minutes into the second half to lift the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team to a 4-2 non-conference victory at Frostburg State on Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.
Junior midfielder Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) assisted on the goal which helped the Presidents improve to 12-3 overall heading into the regular-season finale at Empire 8 rival Stevens (N.J.) Saturday at 3:00 pm. Washington & Jefferson outshot Frostburg State by a 33-9 margin and held a 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
W&J grabbed a 1-0 lead just under 13 minutes into the match when sophomore defender Victoria Patrick (State College, Pa./State College) scored off a pass from senior defender Hannah Lott (Aspers, Pa./Bridgeville).
FSU (5-15) tied the game 12 minutes later on an Alli Elliott goal, but Lott answered 5:03 before halftime for a 2-1 advantage for the Presidents at the break.
The Bobcats refused to go away and tied the match two minutes into the second half as Chelsea Smith beat W&J senior goalie Shelby Colyer (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda).
King then provided the eventual game winner, her second game-winning goal in the past four outings. Junior forward Amanda Pflumm (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham Wading Central) added an insurance goal midway through the second half.
Colyer finished with five saves to record her fourth win of the year. Maggie Edwards amassed 21 saves in the loss.
