Galligan Continues Successful Year With Indoor Track & Field Title

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sophomore Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) won the 5,000-meter championship Friday night to lead Washington & Jefferson at the Youngstown State Indoor Track & Field Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.  The meet was unscored for teams and featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions. 

Galligan ran to a time of 17:32.18 to top the 21-runner field which included five NCAA Division I athletes.  She competed in the indoor track & field season for the first time since becoming the first W&J cross country runner to earn NCAA All-America status during the fall. 

Junior Cheyenne Mangold (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) notched a pair of top 10 finishes after claiming third of 36 runners in the 400 meters (58.44) and ninth of 49 in the 200 meters (26.45).  Junior Meghan Poinsett (Salem, N.J./Salem) also earned 10th place in the 400-meter event (1:01.28). 

Senior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) posted the Presidents' men top showing after notching seventh place in the 1,000 meters (2:40.78).  Classmate Jared Jones (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) placed ninth out of 35 runners in the 200 meters (22.94), while junior Thad Piscatelli (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) tied for eighth place in the pole vault (13'1 1/2"). 

Washington & Jefferson returns to the track next Saturday at the Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational (11:00 am).
