Galligan Places 15th in Strong Field At Lehigh’s Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing in a field of runners from all three NCAA divisions, Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) placed 15th out of 342 runners Friday at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.

The Presidents competed in the invitational’s “Brown” division which had a mix of Division I, II and III programs.  The University of Pittsburgh won the Brown title with 124 points, while Rhode Island (165) and Princeton (187) finished closely behind.  W&J finished last in the 39-team field with 1,049 points, while Wesleyan notched the best Division III team finish in eighth with 340 points.

Galligan was the fifth among NCAA Division III runners with a time of 22:24 on the 6K course.  Bloomsburg’s Victoria Davis (21:50) won the division, while SUNY-Brockport’s Rachel Malone (22:01) was second and the top Division III finisher.

Freshman Keri Reeves (Calimesa, Calif./Yucaipa) was the Presidents’ second-best finisher in 240th place (25:51), while classmate Kaleigh Gallagher (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) was 261st at 26:55.

Freshman Jackie Smith (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) placed 263rd (27:16), while another first-year runner Kenzie Blackmon (Erie, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) was 270th (28:23).  Freshman Maureen McRae (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) crossed the finish line in 271st place (29:34), while classmate Katlyn Blackmon (Erie, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) followed in 272nd (29:42).

Washington & Jefferson continues its fall schedule on Oct. 6 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational (1:00 pm).
