Galligan Takes Second At CMU; Presidents Claim Ninth

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Freshman Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) placed second in a field of 162 runners Saturday to pace Washington and Jefferson College Saturday at the CMU Cross Country Invitational at Schenley Park.
Galligan posted a time of 19:07 in the 5K race to post W&J’s best individual finish. Emily Wobb of CMU won the women’s race with a time of 18:32.
As a team, the Presidents took ninth place of 13 teams. Ashland won the women’s event with 63 points, while Northern Kentucky (69) and California, Pa. (95) rounded out the top three. W&J finished with 270 points.
The men’s 8K team championship was won by Ashland (29) as well. Northern Kentucky was second with 80, while CMU was third with 86. W&J placed ninth of 15 squads with 258 points.
Matt Stratman of Ashland won the men’s race with a time of 25:43. Sophomore Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) was the Presidents’ top finisher in 13th place (26:16) among the 133 runners.
Junior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) was the next best men’s finisher in 43rd place (27:22), while freshman Joshua Makepeace (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) was 88th (29:18). First-year runner Thomas Marcotte (Plainville, Mass./Bishop Feehan) took 90th place (29:23) and sophomore Ronald Graf (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) earned 105th place (30:56).
Sophomore Kia Ruhkamp (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union) placed 40th in the women’s race with a time of 20:43, while classmate Nicole Montecalvo (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) was 90th in a time of 22:14. Senior Kaitlyn Loy (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) placed 115th (23:23) and sophomore Atoosha Hashemi (Fullerton, Calif./Sunny Hills) ran the course in 23:36 and claimed 118th place.
W&J returns to action next Saturday at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble.
