Josh Etzel Earns PAC Wrestler of the Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College sophomore wrestler Josh Etzel (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week on Monday.

Etzel earned a victory by pinfall against Kasey Haines of Penn State-DuBois during the Presidents’ 34-16 win on Friday.

He followed that with a first-place finish in the 149-pound bracket at the Messiah Open on Saturday.  The top-seeded Etzel opened by pinning Tyler Knopp of Liberty at the 4:53 mark.  After two victories by decision, he claimed the title with a 6-3 triumph over The College of New Jersey’s Josh Gorzo.

Etzel owns an 18-3 record this season, including three by pinfall.  He has a 25-4 career record and was the runner-up at last year’s NCAA Midwest Regional.  Etzel has won nine of his last 10 matches.

W&J (2-5, 0-2) travels to Thiel for the Mel Barry Duals on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am.
