Josh Etzel Suffers Two Setbacks At NCAA Wrestling Championships
LA CROSSE, Wisc. -- Washington & Jefferson College sophomore 141-pounder Josh Etzel (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth-Forward) suffered a pair of losses on Friday at the 2012 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the La Crosse Center.
Etzel finishes his season with a 24-5 record. He was the first President to compete at the national championship tournament in nine years.
Etzel drew the 141-pound's No. 2 seed, Kodie Silvestri of top-ranked Wartburg, for his first match Friday afternoon. Silvestri earned a fall in 3:26 to advance to the second round.
Etzel fell into the consolation bracket where he met Kyle Windquist of Luther in the early evening. Windquist built an 8-2 lead after the first period and held off Etzel late for an 11-6 win.
Etzel is the 2012 PAC champion at 141 pounds and was named a NWCA Scholar All-American on Friday. He will take a 31-6 career record into his junior year next winter.
