Julia McLellan Named PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of Month
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior women’s lacrosse goaltender Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for April 2013.
Each month, the SAAC at PAC member institutions nominate student-athletes for Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within his or her campus community. For the first time in 2012-13, men’s and women’s lacrosse student-athletes are eligible for the monthly as the conference conducts unofficial championships until 2014 before full sponsorship begins in 2014-15.
McLellan finished her standout career as W&J’s all-time leader in four goalkeeping categories. She recorded 534 saves and an 8.68 goals-against average during her 65-game career, both W&J records. During the 2012 season, she set a single-season Presidents’ record with a 7.64 GAA. As a freshman, she broke the single-season school record for saves with 138 and was selected to the Womenslacrosse.com All-Rookie Team.
Her 534 saves rank her 10th among all NCAA goalies (all divisions) in saves and her 8.00 career saves per game average is 23rd-best among goalies who played in NCAA Division III this season.
McLellan owns the top four single-season, goals-against averages in school history and four of the top five save totals. She posted 42 career victories.
This spring, McLellan started all 14 games in net and collected 137 saves, while posting a 10.74 GAA.
W&J concluded its season with a 4-10 record under first-year Head Coach Tracy Coyne.
