Kelsey Cunningham Named PAC Softball Hitter Of Week
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College junior shortstop Kelsey Cunningham (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) is this week’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week.
Cunningham helped the Presidents (8-6) post a 4-2 record in Clermont, Florida last week at the National Training Center Games by batting .474 (9-for-19) with five runs batted in. She also scored six times and produced four doubles.
The Presidents’ leadoff hitter, Cunningham is the first W&J batter to earn a PAC player of the week award since CoSIDA Academic All-America first baseman Valerie Schultz ’09 was honored in April 2009.
She had at least one base hit in five of the six Florida games, including three multi-hit efforts. During an 11-0 victory over Gallaudet on Monday, Cunningham went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
On the season, Cunningham leads the Presidents and ranks second in the PAC with a .512 batting average (22-of-43). She tops all PAC players in runs scored (18) and doubles (7), while ranking second in total bases (29) and on-base percentage (.604).
In 81 career games, Cunningham boasts a .378 career batting average (101-for-267). Nearly a quarter of her career hits have been doubles (25) and she has knocked in 31 runs. Cunningham owns 13 stolen bases in 15 chances, a .445 on-base percentage and a .498 slugging percentage.
W&J opens its 2013 home and conference schedule on Saturday when hosting Bethany at 1:00 pm at Brooks Park.
