Kraus Scores Four Goals; Presidents Edged By FSU 11-7
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson senior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) scored four goals, but Frostburg State picked up an 11-7 women’s lacrosse victory over the Presidents on Wednesday night at Alexandre Stadium.
The Bobcats (5-4) ended a three-game losing streak against W&J (2-8) by earning 14 of the match’s 20 draw controls. FSU also held a 23-18 edge in shots.
Kraus and FSU’s Taylor Cassatt both scored twice in the first 14 minutes of the match, but the Bobcats took a 5-3 lead into halftime after netting three goals in the final 8:51. Cassatt capped a three-goal opening half with a goal 11 seconds before the break.
Cassatt scored again 16 seconds into the second half to spark a three-goal run which put Frostburg State in control 8-3 at the 25:56 mark.
W&J fought back with goals by senior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul’s School for Girls) and Kraus less than two minutes apart, but the Bobcats rallied for three more goals, including a pair by Megan White, to open an 11-5 lead with 12:27 left.
Naomi Swann earned the win in goal for the Bobcats after making eight saves. FSU forced 18 W&J turnovers and received four goals from Cassatt. White totaled three points (2g, 1 a), while Katelyn Kesecker contributed two goals.
Fradkin posted two goals and one assist for W&J, while senior attacker Megan Kelly (South Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) added one goal and one assist. Kraus also caused four of Frostburg State’s 17 turnovers. Senior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) made seven of her game-high 11 saves in the opening 30 minutes.
The Presidents travel to Granville, Ohio, on Monday to face Denison at 4:30 pm.
