Late Goals Help Bobcats Nip Presidents 3-2
FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored two goals in the final six minutes to earn a 3-2 comeback victory over Washington & Jefferson in men’s soccer action on Saturday evening.
The Bobcats (4-1), who outshot the Presidents (3-2) by a 19-8 margin, opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a goal by Chris Jones.
W&J quickly tied the match on senior Cody Peddicord’s (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) goal that was set up by senior defender Greg Musgnug (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). The score remained that way for a majority of the game until junior midfielder James Calvert (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) fired home a 70th minute goal off a feed from classmate Dylan Small (Whittier, Calif./Whittier).
The Presidents appeared ready to close out a big non-conference triumph, but FSU stormed back to tie the game with 6:24 left on Kunie Akinfeyele’s goal. Jones then provided the late heroics with his second goal with just 50 ticks remaining.
Junior Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) suffered the loss for W&J in goal despite making eight saves. Drew Hock picked up three stops for the Bobcats.
The Presidents host Carnegie Mellon on Wednesday night in their next match at Alexandre Stadium (7:00 pm).
