Lowery And Marcius Add ECAC Awards

WASHINGTON, Pa. --  Washington & Jefferson College sophomore defensive end Jon Lowery (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was honored Wednesday as the ECAC Division III Southwest Region Football Defensive Player of the Week, while senior women’s soccer Chrissy Marcius (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) was named ECAC Division III South Division Offensive Player of the Week.

Lowery recorded a career-high four sacks to lead the W&J football team (4-1, 3-0) to a 28-26 victory over Bethany on Saturday. All four of his sacks came during the second half and three were on Bison third-down attempts. He leads the team with 6.5 sacks this fall and has totaled 21.5 tackles. Lowery’s four sacks were the most by a W&J defender since 2009.

Marcius accumulated nine points (4g, 1a) during two Presidents’ victories last week. She tallied a career-best four goals to lead W&J (5-4-1, 1-0-1) to a conference-opening 5-2 win versus Geneva on Saturday. Marcius now ranks fourth in program history with 30 career goals and 88 total points.

The W&J football team returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Thomas More for a 1:30 pm game, while the Presidents’ women’s soccer team hosts Saint Vincent on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
