Magdic Nets Four; Presidents Drop 11-10 Decision On West Coast
CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) fired in four goals, but the 10th-ranked Presidents were nipped by Occidental 11-10 Friday evening in its second match at the Gary Troyer Tournament at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
The Presidents (6-7), who defeated Caltech 12-8 earlier in the day, also received two-goal efforts from seniors Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Sophomore Carl Krause (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and freshman Kevin Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) both found the back of the cage once.
Junior Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) played his second solid match in the net with eight saves. Occidental is receiving votes in the latest CWPA Division III poll.
The Presidents will play two more matches tomorrow during its west coast swing, taking on second-ranked Cal Lutheran (2:20 EDT) and eighth-ranked La Verne (7:40 EDT).
