Marcius Nets Four; Presidents Cruise In PAC Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior forward Chrissy Marcius (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) set a career high by scoring four goals and led the Washington & Jefferson College women’s soccer team to a 5-2 Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over Geneva on Saturday afternoon.

W&J (5-4, 1-0 PAC) won its fifth-straight game and its third consecutive conference-opening match, while the Golden Tornadoes fell to 4-5-1 this fall (0-1 PAC).

Marcius scored the first of her trio of first-half goals off a header which was fed into front of the net by senior midfielder Dawn Murphy (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) six minutes into the contest.  Marcius added two more goals during a five-minute span just before halftime to give the Presidents a 3-0 lead after 45 minutes.

Murphy tallied her fifth goal of the fall early in the second half, while Marcius capped the W&J scoring with a goal during 74th minute.  Geneva ended the shutout bid with a pair of late goals.

Marcius recorded a team-high six shots on goal, while senior Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) added five.  Overall, W&J outshot Geneva 15-6.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mattie Follen (Moon, Pa./Moon) made three saves in 77 minutes in net. Anna McMullen stopped 10 shots for the Golden Tornadoes.

The Presidents aim for their sixth-straight victory when they travel to Wesminster on Tuesday (4:00 pm).
