Marymount Takes Down W&J Lacrosse 14-8
ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount dominated the third quarter to break a halftime tie and earn a 14-8 men’s lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon in Virginia.
The Presidents (3-2) led 3-1 early in the second quarter following back-to-back goals junior midfielder Casey Smallwood (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), but the Saints (2-1) rallied back to tie the game at halftime.
Marymount then took control by scoring eight of the next 10 goals, including six consecutive tallies from the 7:21 mark of the third quarter until 12:31 remained in the match. Connor Kellogg scored three times during the spurt for the Saints.
Nico Burns led the Saints with four goals, while Kellogg added three goals and three assists. Jack Burke contributed two goals and two assists for the Saints, who outshot the Presidents by a 42-26 margin.
Outside of Smallwood’s pair of scores, six different Presidents recorded one goal. Senior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University) suffered the loss. He made 11 saves, including six in the opening 15 minutes.
W&J returns to action next Saturday when it opens Landmark Conference play against defending league champion Goucher at 1:00 pm at Alexandre Stadium.
