Men’s Lacrosse Seniors Enter PAC Tournament Among NCAA Active Leaders
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College opens play in the inaugural Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Tournament semifinals tonight and two seniors enter the tournament ranked among the NCAA active statistical leaders.
Senior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) enters the PAC Tournament with 629 career saves which ranks seventh on the NCAA Division III active goalie list. That number is also good for the eighth-highest total among all active NCAA goalies in any division.
Kirby also ranks 12th among NCAA Division III goaltenders in saves per game (12.3).
Senior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly), who just became W&J’s all-time goal leader after upping his total to 124 in the regular-season finale at Drew, begins his final week in Presidents’ uniform 16th among active Division III goal scorers and 29th out of all NCAA men’s lacrosse players.
Eck’s 173 points (124 goals, 49 assists) are 30th among active Division III players and 50th when considering all NCAA I, II or III attackmen. With six more points, Eck will pass former teammate Andrew Wallick ’12 for the program’s all-time point lead.
Second-seeded W&J hosts third-seeded Thiel at 7:00 pm at Alexandre Stadium for the PAC Tournament semifinals. The Presidents (4-10) defeated the Tomcats (7-6) 14-5 in the season opener on Feb. 23 in Greenville. Eck supplied five goals and two assists to lead Washington & Jefferson.
On December 19, 2012, the PAC announced that men’s and women’s lacrosse will be added as official PAC sports, beginning with the 2014-15 academic year. The additions were adopted by the PAC Presidents’ Council at their December 5, 2012 meeting.
Unofficial conference championship events in both men’s and women’s lacrosse will take place in 2013 and 2014. The PAC will become the 25th Division III conference to sponsor women’s lacrosse and the 22nd to sponsor men’s lacrosse, giving the league a total of 21 sponsored sports.
